We have all, all too often had experiences in teams, and as team leaders, that involved any one of these dysfunctions: the ineffective use of hierarchy as “power over,” a lack of trust, games of ego, and an over-reliance on command and control to create some sort of accountability. Creative, productive collaboration is, unfortunately, not the norm.

The practice of “healthy teaming” is needed now more than ever in today’s complex and easily polarizing world. When a team maintains an awareness of itself as an interdependent human system, it has increasing and sustainable levels of trust, a capacity to productively engage with conflict, and the energy for motivating goals that deliver results while growing team skills.

Growing the managerial capacity to navigate complexity, include diverse viewpoints, and innovate one’s business or function into the new forms that are required by the needs and wants of society today is key to a healthy business ecosystem.
